Chicopee – Gerald John Podsiadlo, 80, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024 after a long illness. Born and raised in Holyoke, he was the son of Ferdinand J. and Felicia C. (Stepniak) Podsiadlo. Shortly after graduating from Holyoke High School, Gerald enlisted in the USAF where he became a Communications Specialist. He retired after 22 ½ years of distinguished service which included two tours in Vietnam. Following his retirement, he took a position as a Chicopee School Bus driver where he retired after 23 years. Gerald was a communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church. He was an avid sports fan of auto racing and golf. However his true passion was rooting for all the Boston sports teams. Gerald is survived by his sister, Judith Podsiadlo-Raby; his nephew, Chris Raby and his wife, Anna; and several cousins. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the New England Hospice staff for their comforting care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gerald’s family on Monday, March 4 from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Dillon Funeral Home, 124 Chestnut Street, Holyoke. Funeral Services are private. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars www.vfw.org, or to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund www.vvmf.org.
