Derek “Wookie” Robert Rheaume Woofenden, 43, passed into the spiritual world suddenly in Hadley, Massachusetts, on March 19, 2024. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Robert and Anita Rheaume, and his beloved dog Jayda. He is survived by his mother, Denise Rheaume; adoptive father, Ross Woofenden; brothers Kenneth Woofenden and wife Alia, Michael Woofenden and wife Beth; sister Emily Tergliafera and husband Christopher; his longtime friend Shannon Bazluke; and his beloved dog Buki. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Born in Northampton on May 9, 1980, Derek spent his first six years in Easthampton, Massachusetts and then moved to Haydenville, Massachusetts where he grew up attending Williamsburg schools. He attended Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School in Northampton, Massachusetts, and attended Greenfield Community College. He collected stamps, coins, and baseball cards. He loved animals and took great joy in his dogs. Derek was a gifted artist. He taught himself glass blowing and created beautiful pieces of unique glassware. Derek was a fierce friend with a heart of gold, who thought of himself as “A man who helps others whenever possible with absolute love and care, regardless.” Heaven has gained a bright light at our loss.
